Madison : having a CGM has made working through Covid a little easier
I was diagnosed at the age of 7. It was a freak story.
I was growing up with my mum who had type 1 diabetes, so I was no stranger when it came to needles or blood test.
One day I had a scrape on my knee and jokingly told my mum to test my blood. She tested it and it came back at 16.7. We looked at each other as if we had seen a ghost. She told me we needed to test again but by tested my finger. Me being 7 at the time I freaked out and ran around the house before accidentally testing my own finger. That then came back as 16.9.
Then came the urgent doctors appointments and testing at Starship hospital. It was then confirmed that I was in fact a type 1 diabetic like my mum.
14 years later at the age of 21 I am still fighting an everyday battle and everything that has come with it. Being diagnosed with neuropathy at age 10 (not due to poor control or high levels) to being diagnosed with POTs syndrome at age 19.
I work for Middlemore hospital and using a Dexcom has changed my life these past 4 months and has made working through Covid a little easier for me.
