Emma: I am 23 years old and I'm tired of the constant anxiety
I was diagnosed at two and a half years old, so I don't know what life is like without diabetes. I don't know what it's like to simply eat something and not have to think about what it will do to my blood sugar levels and calculate how much insulin to dose.
I am 23 years old now and I'm tired of the constant anxiety that my blood sugar will drop while I'm out somewhere or in the middle of the night while I'm asleep.
I'm a full-time student and I can't afford a CGM. I can't even afford to cover my tuition fees on my own or buy a house. I have lived with this illness for more than twenty years and all I want is access to technology that will lessen the burden, even just a little bit. I finger prick test about 10 times a day in order to keep my glucose levels under control, as I'm afraid of developing complications later in life.
I beg PHARMAC to fund CGMs for all as they really are a lifesaver that shouldn't be accessible only to those who can afford it.
