Our students, our future

Diabetes NZ was delighted to join the Whitireia & WelTec communities for their Health & Wellbeing Expos this week.

Taking place at the WelTec Petone, Whitireia and Te Auaha campuses, the events gave us a chance to talk to students training for a broad range of occupations.

One nursing student said:

It’s so interesting to see the [fat and sugar] information visually, it’s quite scary realising how much there is in food you think is healthy!

Siaosi Anamani, of Tu Ora Compass Health and the Walking Samoans, joined us at Whitireia as excellent host, timekeeper and cheerleader for the Skip for One Minute challenge. Participants had to skip for one minute to go in the draw to win a Fitbit Inspire 2 (one for each event). The skipping was so energetic that they broke our skipping rope!

At Te Auaha, we were joined by Tu Ora’s Registered Nurse Sharon Oliver for some great chats with passersby around our Fat and Sugar Kits.

Congratulations to our Fitbit winners!
