Kim's Story
I had gestational diabetes in 1999 and was then diagnosed with type one diabetes in 2004. Initially I was a brittle diabetic despite my doctor and nurses giving me the best care they could.
On Christmas Eve morning on 2010 I had a diabetic seizure and was rushed to hospital. In July of 2011 I had Diabetic Keto Acidosis and spent four days in ICU and very nearly died.
That was when my husband and I decided to fund my first insulin pump. This made a huge difference - prior to this I was on 5 injections a day.
A few months later I was lucky enough to get a funded pump for which I was very grateful for.
I have been wearing sensors on and off for the past four years which are a lifeline and allow me to have much better control.
My HBA1C has gone from 112 to now sitting in the mid 60s.
