Georgie's Story
My name is Georgie and this is my diabetic journey.
When I was 8, I started feeling really horrible at my own birthday party. Over the next few days I couldn't stay awake and my speech start to slur, the doctors said another 30 minutes and I'd be dead. I couldn't even wake up long enough to get in the car for the hospital. I was in severe ketoacidosis, with ketones of above 7 and a bg too high for any meter to read.
I am now 15, and have always struggled to manage my glucose levels. I was put on the pump shortly after my diagnosis, but lost funding only 2 years later because my hbA1C levels were extraordinarily high. High as in above 100.
I've been on and off trials for the Libra freestyle in the last 7 years, and every time I get the opportunity to trail there is always a noticeable difference in my levels. We can always adjust my ratios and Lantus and finally get my levels perfect. But then the 2 weeks are up, and everything gets out of control again, and it's a viscous cycle that one day my cause me my life.
It isn't fair nor right that at my young age I need thick glasses and have had so much problems like shingles and ulcers due to stress my diabetes if causing my body. I want to take back my body, and I know the only way that the could be a realistic possibility is if cgm's are funded. This cause needs to be taken with more than the grain of salt we are currently getting. They need to take this one leap at a time.
