Diabetes NZ's CGM petition heard by Health Select Committee
On Wednesday 30 June we presented our petition around better diabetes medications and technology to the Health Select Committee.
We were joined by Assoc Prof Dr Ben Wheeler (University of Otago), Ruby McGill (DNZ Advisory Council, Mastering T1D), and 8 year old Eddie Writes.
We felt hopeful coming out of the hearing; members of the Health Select Committee were receptive and asked valuable questions, allowing us to present our case strongly.
The petition was submitted in November 2019, and asked:
That the House of Representatives urge Pharmac to fund Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGM), GLP1 agonists including Bydureon, Byetta, Lyxumia, and Victoza, SGLT2 inhibitors including Forxiga and Jardiance, and DPP-4 inhibitors including Januvia, Onglyza, and Trajenta.
PHARMAC responded on Wednesday 7 July
