I have type 2 diabetes, why can I not get a CGM?

CGM’s for people with type 2 diabetes were not included in Pharmac’s original funding proposal plans, however Pharmac acknowledges there is emerging evidence for the use of these technologies to help people with type 2 diabetes.

Pharmac is currently inviting funding applications to expand the use of these products to people with type 2 diabetes. They will accept applications from anyone, including consumers, clinicians and suppliers.  Applications would be considered through their usual process.  Make a NPPA application - Pharmac | Te Pātaka Whaioranga | NZ Government

CGMs can be purchased/self-funded by people with type 2 diabetes directly from suppliers. Please check with your healthcare professional to discuss whether a CGM is the right choice for you.

We Won’t Stop until all New Zealanders living with diabetes who are using insulin have access to the global standard of care, including access to funded CGMs to manage their diabetes and avoid complications. So the advocacy will continue.
