Seb and Kim: Such a learning curve but we did it together.

We are 6 months into this diabetes journey with our daughter. Diagnosed at 16 but now 17 in year 13 at school.

She's always been a very sporty child but being diagnosed at the end of the netball season and the start of the rowing season, what a journey.

Such a learning curve that we as a family went through but we did it together.

Diabetes was not going to stop our girl from rowing, so learning how to control diabetes but then adding into it the highly intensive exercise that you need to do as a rower was tough.

The amazing thing is there are 4 Type 1 girls at her rowing club and in the photos attached there are 3 in this quad.

These were taken at the Canterbury Champs at Twizel in Jan where they made the final in this boat, and she was also in the club 8 who won the final. She also rows in a pair so both girls are Type 1 and they have made the finals in the past two competitions.

The great thing is having the CGM in their arms they can row, test and eat if necessary without even having to leave the boat. The freedom it gives the girls is just amazing, but they also support each other too.
