Deborah's Story

Woman with head in hands

My name is Deborah, and I want to tell you about my niece and her family.

Her older son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was about 4 years old. He is now 6 (nearly 7) and for over a year, the family have using a pump to monitor and control his insulin. Sadly, sensors on the pump fail frequently and my niece and her son are up all night dealing with the problem.

Also, they are now required to get an expensive new phone to communicate with the pump. The cost of all this is crippling a young family who also have to pay a very high rent!

The boy's mother is doing the best she can, but it's very difficult for them.

We Won’t Stop until all New Zealanders living with diabetes who are using insulin have access to the global standard of care, including funded CGMs to manage their diabetes and avoid complications.
